We are readers

We love to read! The kids and I went to the library last week and got a bunch of books. We've been doing a lot of reading and indoor stuff this summer because the weather sure hasn't been summery :) Nyla especially is a voracious reader, she is currently into reading the "warriors" series by Erin Hunter and LOVES them. You can check them out here.

And mister Gabe is turning into a reader as well, he loves listening to books on cds as well as being read to by mom or dad or his big sister.
How about you? Do you and your family love to read?

Summer!!

So despite like 90% of North America being in a heat wave, we have had nothing but clouds and rain all summer so far with a few sunny days thrown in. Needless to say on those few sunny days, we try and get out and enjoy them! So here are the kids enjoying some sunny days at the beach

Hopefully you are getting some of that nice summer weather as well!!

Fun times with the cousins...

This weekend we had some family come and visit us including my kids only cousins (so far!) They all had a blast playing outside with water guns and balloons and jumping on the trampoline :) We all had a lovely time and we were so happy to finally meet the newest member of their family (she's nearly one!)  Thanks Sherry and Clint for bringing your lovely family out to visit!

All the girls :)
Have a good week :)

Outtakes from Canada day...

Lest you think that my impromptu photo shoot was easy and perfect I thought I would share some of the outtakes of that day :)

The girls decided they wanted to make all the shots silly pictures despite my begging to just have one nice one...

and when they cooperated finally, their brother decided to kibosh the whole endeavor :)

The kids were ecstatic when daddy decided to jump with them (I usually can't watch this as it freaks me out like the photo above) and believe it or not, no one was seriously injured!

Gabe asked me to take a picture of him and this is how he posed (we all got a good giggle out of that one!)

Oooooh and here is the yummy somewhat patriotic breakfast I made, waffles with maple syrup, strawberries(red) and whip cream (white) and an egg on the side since we didn't have any bacon.

Needless to say, we had a great day hanging out as a family and going to watch the fireworks that night in town.

The easiest chocolate chip cookie recipe ever!

OK so this isn't the prettiest picture ever, but you can see what they look like right?  I've been making these super easy cookies a lot lately because, #1 they are super yummy, #2 they are super easy to make, you don't even have to spend time making each individual cookie since they are a slab and you just cut them up (I guess you could use cute shaped cookie cutters if you wanted, I just thought of that now! hmmmm, gonna have to make some more and try that!)
Without further ado, here is the yummerific recipe;

Chocolate Chip Slab Cookies

1 cup margarine or butter (or half of each, I use all butter)
1 cup  Brown sugar
1 tsp Vanilla
2 cups Flour
1 cup Chocolate chips

Cream margarine/butter and sugar together, beating thoroughly (the secret!). Add vanilla and flour. Mix well. Stir in chocolate chips. Pat mixture onto a greased 15" x 10" cookie sheet that has sides. Bake at 350 degrees F (180 degrees Celsius) for approx 25 minutes. Cut into squares (or shapes with cutters) while warm.

And THAT'S IT! So easy, hope you enjoy!
